Costruita su una preesistente struttura romanica, la parrocchiale anticamente veniva denominata "Santa Maria in Castrum vetus", perchÈ chiusa nell'antico castello; oggi la chiesa è dedicata alla Natività di Maria. Nel corso dei secoli si sono succeduti ampliamenti e ristrutturazioni: a partire dal 1684 furono realizzati un nuovo coro, la sacrestia, l'oratorio, l'ampliamento della navata centrale e la nuova costruzione delle navate laterali. Il campanile romanico fu sopraelevato nel secolo scorso su progetto dell'ingegner Melchioni, ma fu poi abbattuto e sostituito con quello odierno nel 1935.

 

Built on the site where a Romanesque structure once stood, this parish church was formerly named “Santa Maria in Castrum vetus”, as it was enclosed into the ancient castle. Today the church is dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin Mary. Alterations and enlargements have been carried out over the centuries; in 1684 begun the construction of: the new choir; sacristy, oratory, the enlargement of the nave and the addition of the aisles. In the 19th century the ancient Romanesque bell tower was raised on a base, to plans by engineer Melchioni; later on it was demolished and the present bell tower was constructed in 1935.

Poco distante dal centro del paese, sulla sinistra lungo la statale che conduce a Borgomanero, in area sacra celtica con necropoli, sorge l'oratorio della Santissima Trinità, una costruzione a navata unica con abside, alla quale è stata addossata una piccola cappelletta e un oratorio utilizzato fino al secolo scorso. Se ne ha notizia certa fin dal 1347, anche se la costruzione originaria può essere collocata intorno al XII secolo. Sorse come piccolo oratorio, sosta obbligata dei pellegrini che percorrevano la Via Francigena, antico percorso che univa Novara a Borgomanero per poi proseguire fino alla Val d'Ossola. Di notevole pregio sono gli affreschi che si trovano all'interno della chiesa, risalenti al XV e XVI secolo, attribuibili alla bottega del Cagnoli e recentemente restaurati. Nella parte absidale si possono ammirare le raffigurazioni della Trinità e degli Apostoli, con alla base le Opere di Misericordia, lungo le pareti si susseguono scene della Vita di Cristo e, come epilogo, un affresco importante, il Giudizio Universale, che suscita grandi e profonde emozioni, oltre a un comprensibile interesse artistico. Da segnalare la valenza storica del luogo, ove confluirono l'sercito Piemontese con lo Stato Maggiore e il re Vittorio Emanuele II, dopo la battaglia di Novara, combattuta contro gli austriaci il 23 marzo 1849.

 

The oratory of the Holy Trinity stands on the left side of the road to Borgomanero, a short distance from the town. The area was sacred to the Celts and was the site of a necropolis. The church is documented from 1347, but the original construction probably dates from around the 12th century. It was originally a small oratory, used by the pilgrims on the “Via Francigena”, the ancient route of pilgrimage and trades linking Novara to Borgomanero and then to the Ossola Valley and the Alps. Noteworthy are the frescoes on the interior of the church, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries and recently restored; they are attributed to artists working with Cagnoli. The apse wall features a Trnity and the Apostles, and the Works of Mercy in the lower part; along the nave are depicted episodes from Christ life, culminating in an imposing fresco representing the Last Judgement, a work of great artistic value and emotional intensity. The history of the sire is also important: here the Piedmontese troops and Generals met the king, Victor Emmanuel II, on 23 March 1849, after the battle of Novara against the Austrians.

Restaurato agli inizi del Novecento, l'oratorio ad aula unica e abside semicircolare, è situato nella campagna fra Bellinzago e Alzate di Momo. Citato per la prima volta nel 1324, anticamente era sotto la giurisdizione dei religiosi dell'Abbadia di Dulzago, che ne curavano i possedimenti agricoli circostanti. All'interno sono ancora visibili pregevoli affreschi di Luca De Campo risalenti al 1468.

 

Restored in the early 20th century, this single-nave oratory with semicircular apse is located in the countryside between Bellinzago and alzate di Momo. The church is documented as early as 1324; it was then under the jurisdiction of the monks of the Abbey of Dulzago, who farmed the surrounding land. Lovely frescoes by Luca De Campo, dating from 1468, are still visible on the interior.

È situato in un piccolo nucleo rurale a ovest di Momo, nei pressi del torrente Agogna. Edificato sui resti del Monastero degli Umiliati, presenti a Momo fino al 1314, il "castello", cinto da mura, si distingue da lontano per la sua alta torre più volte rimaneggiata nel corso del tempo. Degno di nota è lo stemma dei Natta d'Alfiano, antichi proprietari del castello, affrescata sulla facciata della torre prospiciente il cortile. Attualmente vi ha la sede un ristorante. Merita un cenno il Castello di Castelletto di Momo, la cui fondazione risale probabilmente prima del 1201.

 

The castle stands in a small village west of momo, near the torrent Agogna. Built on the remains of the Monastery of the Humiliates, who lived at momo until 1314, the castle, encircled by walls, can be seen from afar. It features a tall tower, frequently reconstructed over the centuries. On the tower façade overlooking the courtyard, note the coat of arms of the Natta d’alfiano family, once the owners of the castle. The building is now occupied by a restaurant. Nearby is the castle of Castelletto di Momo, probably erected before 1201.
