DORMELLETTO



Situato nella parte meridionale del Lago Maggiore, Dormelletto, nel periodo dell'Alto Medioevo, appartenne al Comitato di Stazzona. Successivamente divenne proprietà dei conti di Vercelli, che nel 1441 lo girarono, per diritto ereditario, ai Borromeo.

Located in the southern part of Lake Maggiore, Dormelletto, during the High Middle Ages, it belonged to the “Comitato di Stazzona”. Later it became the property of the Vercelli Counts and than to the Borromeo.

Chiesa Parrocchiale
Dedicata all'Assunta, la parrocchiale sorge su un colle che domina l'abitato. Romanica, è già citata in un documento del 1157, in cui si riferisce della sua consacrazione da parte del vescovo Litifredo. Originariamente a navata unica, ha subìto nel corso dei secoli vari rimaneggiamenti e restauri che ne hanno modificato l'aspetto primitivo; in occasione degli interventi compiuti nel 1936, ad esempio, furono aperte le cappelle poste sulle pareti laterali. Dell'antica chiesa può vedere la base della torre, ora inglobata e utilizzata come campanile; torre che intorno al XII secolo aveva la funzione di torre dell'avamposto dei signori di Arona.

Parish church

The Romanesque parish church of the Assunta stands on a hill dominating the town. It is already mentioned in a document of 1157, where it is said that it was consecrated by bishop Litifredo. Originally it had a single nave and in the course of the centuries it underwent many alterations and restorations which have changed the original aspect; during the repairs of 1936, for example, the chapels on the side walls were opened. Of the ancient church remains the base of the tower which in the 12th century used to be the outpost tower of the lords of Arona; it has now been incorporated and is used as the bell tower.

Chiesa della Madonna della Fontana
La chiesa della Madonna della Fontana è situata a Dormello, nella parte alta del paese, sulla strada che collega Dormelletto a Mercurago. Eretta nel XIV secolo, fino al XVI secolo vi sorgeva accanto un monastero. All'interno dell'edificio religioso è stata ritrovata nel 1948 una pregevole pala d'altare cinquecentesca. Nel 1630, in seguito a una grave epidemia di peste, la chiesa fu adibita a lazzaretto.

Madonna of the Fountain Church

The church of the Madonna of the Fountain is situated in Dormello, in the high part of the town, on the road leading from Dormelletto to Mercurago. It was built in the 16th century it stood next to a monastery. In 1948 a valuable altarpiece was found in the interior. In 1630, after a terrible plague epidemic, the church was used as a pesthouse.


Villa Conelli-Tesio
L'antica villa è situata in riva al lago, con la facciata prospiciente il lago stesso e gli altri lati che lambiscono l'esteso parco-prateria, luogo ideale per far correre i cavalli di razza: la villa fu infatti la sede di una delle più importanti scuderie italiane. La costruzione ha linee semplici, quasi severe, ed è disposta su tre piani. Interessante e originale la lunga balconata di legno, con motivi romboidali, sorretta da mensole in serizzo, collocata al primo piano della parte frontale.

Villa Conelli-Tesio

The ancient villa is on the lake shore, with the front overlooking the lake, while the other sides give onto the large stretch of parkland, an ideal place for horse-racing: the villa was one of the most important racing stables in Italy. The building has a simple design, almost severe, and is arranged on three storeys. At the front on the first floor is an original long wooden balcony, with rhomboidal motifs, supported by granite consoles.
